Primitive Art Inspiration
Faintly outlined eyes seemingly gazing into nothing; upwards and beyond. Conservative outfit concealing everything but his hands, feet and face - sense organs. Encased in a grainy stone texture, full of holes - rough and imperfect. Rigid upright posture fixated in an uncomfortable 75 degrees bend - straining. Legs tucked into body with lower legs positioned vertically straight- uncanny balance. Hands placed flat on abdomen - gentle but forced.
Restriction.
Large Reclining Figure
Displayed in the past on a flat ground surface surrounded by traditional barriers to prevent audience contact and vandalism. Facing from the bank. Disadvantage: plain, seems unfinished and unfurnished. Not really artistically striking or appealing with the contrast of its bronze colour beside the dull gray building. Unable to fully showcase its potential.
Displayed now also facing the opposite buildings from the bank, but instead of artificial barriers a natural barrier is created by the water separator in the arrangement of the flooring. The sculpture is placed in the middle in a whole new array of reflective flooring, combining both elements of water and ground.
I'd put it in the outside gardens at gardens by the bay, perhaps among the animal bush cuttings (such as that of the gorilla), with it submerged within natural foliage. The gorilla also has a similar pose to that of the sculpture, and the element of nature really fits in well with Henry's sculpture. Motherhood is a natural responsibility, a biological feature of the definition of women as well so the ideals are similar and match each other. Furthermore, Gardens By The Bay is also a popular tourist attraction with the giant baby artwork situated there too.
