Street Wear
|

Prior to starting on this assignment, I spent a few days walking around and observing what teenagers like us wear on the streets, mentally marking down anything particularly striking or stylish in my mind. I also window-shopped at various well known clothing brands, for example COTTON ON, ZARA, FOREVER21 and GIORDANO. To top it off, I also went online looking at social media accounts which focus on fashion and stylish OOTDs such as @fashionfacts on Instagram where lots of different cool and fashionable styles of outfits are modeled and well-liked by people.

Throughout all the observations, I made some sketches on the more common types of hats/headwear that go well with street wear.
Wearing a cap the wrong way round is also more fashionably attractive.

Next, I made sketches of possible street wear outfits, varying my styles (such as designs of collars) and clothing range as far as possible, but still within the boundary.
Main types of clothing:
- Romper
- Jacket
- Overalls
- Crop Top
- Jumpsuit
- Collared Shirts
- Vest
- Highwaist
- Pleated Skirt
- Off-Shoulder Top
- Cut-Outs
- Bandage Skirt

After going through all these various combinations, I decided on an off-shoulder romper.
A bowler or a top hat will go best with this outfit, as shown. To replace conventional flower patterns, i used the design of crosses, which fits better with youths. Also, in order for this clothing to appear "cool", the colours black and mint are used as when combined, they present a new sense of "stylish" as compared to the more mainstream colours such as maroon and monochromes.

As youths nowadays prefer clothes which show off some flesh, such as cut-outs and crops, the top of this romper is an off-shoulder top in order to fit with the trend.

There will be concealed zippers in the clothing for easier wearing, as it is a romper afterall.

Hi.

First of all, I like how it rains. Also, the flashy pictures. The text is a tad small though.
To the topic of this assignment: Your final design is pretty cool; it's very practical and I would wear it (if I had more fashion sense). I like the colour combination. Indeed, contrasting colours are in style now. Mint is a very refreshing colour. I also like that bowler hat :>
Why did you decide on a romper? As you've mentioned yourself, rompers are not very easy to put on. I'd suggest splitting the top and bottom since they look like separate articles of clothing anyway, given the different colours and all.
Your experimental designs are very fascinating, especially that NC16 one, and the skirt for the first design has an interesting cut. The figures look quite stiff; perhaps you could have traced over the template given during the workshop? They're good references for anatomy.

Running for shelter,
Your dearest lipid
